Hotel Asterweg - Amsterdam
In the circular district of Buiksloterham in Amsterdam North, Studioninedots and DELVA, commissioned by Being Development, present a new sustainable hotel. The hotel is fully gas-free, BREEAM Excellent certified, and utilizes a circular water system. Located in a park-like setting by the water, the hotel offers a dynamic space that perfectly aligns with the sustainable initiatives in the neighborhood.

Multifunctional Character
The five interconnected volumes in the park vary in height, function, and atmosphere and are grouped around several patios. At the heart of the complex is a communal space where tourists, business travelers and locals come together. The ground floor is tall and transparent, allowing the landscape to blend with the interior. On the sunny side, a cohesive space forms along the waterfront, where the public restaurant, terrace, garden and pier are perfectly integrated. The hotel is strongly anchored in the neighborhood through collaborations with local partners in hospitality, art and services. It offers plenty of outdoor space in a park-like setting, with a spacious terrace by the water. The landscape is designed with circularity in mind, featuring planting areas with a mix of perennials and grasses, carefully selected to enhance biodiversity.

Integral Sustainability
With sustainability and technology as key focuses, a unique circular water system has been developed that collects, stores, filters and reuses water for various applications, including a playful fountain. The building is fully gas-free and has been certified with a BREEAM Excellent rating. “Water consumption in hotels is often very high, which is why we have placed this at the core of the hotel design, together with our partners,” says Dirk Dekker of Being Development. “This hotel will serve as an example of a building that perfectly integrates with the neighborhood’s architecture and has a positive impact on a rapidly developing area: the green and vibrant heart of Buiksloterham.”

Connected, sustainable mobility
The hotel park is connected to various cycling and water networks. A bike path, along with a potential new pedestrian and bike bridge, will soon provide a fast connection to the city center. The ferry travels from the Houthavens on the city side to Kop Grasweg in Buiksloterham, further enhancing sustainable mobility in the area.

Opening towards the waterfront
The hotel park opens up towards the waters of the Tolhuiskanaal. The waterfront accommodates boat docking and water-based recreation. In the future, the waterfront will be connected to the waterfront leading towards the new Buiksloterham&Co neighborhood, further enhancing the area’s accessibility and recreational opportunities.

Circular water system
Water is the central theme of the park hotel. The architectural and landscape design highlights how water and its use can be visibly integrated for visitors. Rainwater is collected on the rooftops and reused for various applications, such as irrigation, a brewery, aquaponics in the pavilion and a spectacular water feature in the patios. This element showcases the impact of rain and serves as a playful and interactive feature throughout the year, especially for children.

A vibrant spot in Buiksloterham
The park hotel is more than just a place to stay; it is a vibrant hub within the circular district of Buiksloterham. It provides space for local initiatives in the open fields of the park and serves as a valuable addition to the many activities already taking place at the circular incubator, ‘De Ceuvel’.
