Poort van de Prijkels - Deinze
A green home for entrepreneurs
An unprecedentedly ugly site in subdivided Flanders is getting a metamorphosis. A transformation that turns intensely green. Many new trees will soon form the new context of three wooden towers. A gateway, an inseparable ensemble of landscape and architecture stimulates and shows that business parks can also be transformed into inspiring and pleasant places for people and animals.
International team led by DELVA wins tender
Team DELVA – KAAN – DENKC-STUDIO, wins the tender Poort van Prijkels.
Led by Alheembouw-Steenoven and commissioned by the intermunicipal association Veneco, the team is joining forces to make the ‘Gate of the Prijkels’ a new standard for the harmonious development of commercial buildings and nature.
Setting an example for the new way of working
Sustainability, ecology, social welfare, architecture and landscape value: the combination makes the ‘Poort van de Prijkels’ a model project. It answers more than one task. We want to puncture the idea of the ugly, bricked-up industrial site. We create, as it were, a real destination, an inspiring place for humans and animals that focuses on well-being, a place you are drawn to because it has its own identity. Ecology is the decisive factor here. This is why we are creating a space here that fully respects and integrates the natural environment. Respecting the soil, we avoid any unnecessary paving and create a closed soil balance. Thus, we seek to ensure coherent and sustainable coexistence between humans, nature and animals.
The project thus shines in taking up all the current challenges of our time in an integrated way. The responsibility is thus taken to start carrying out the construction tasks in a balanced and sustainable way.
Mental health first
Inclusion and the mental well-being of future users: that is what is prioritised. Between the buildings, a beautiful forest landscape will soon meander, which can be admired from the terraces.
“We’re moving away from the grey motorway infrastructure and traditional concrete here”, says Steven Delva.
In this story, we bring landscape and buildings together in such a way that they almost melt together, really taking you into a new world.
– Steven Delva
A park to get lost in, literally and figuratively
A sea of greenery with forest, this will be the cradle for a business park that harmonises sustainability, ecology and conscious entrepreneurship.
“We are creating a world that inspires, that ensures that nature and people meet, and at the same time provides an entrance to the wooden towers. Landscape, trees, wooden facade, together they will form the green Poort van de Prijkels”, it reads.
Greeted by art every day
Among all that natural beauty, there will soon be room for landscape art. A remarkable landscape artwork called De Karreweg, by Dutch artist Paul de Kort, will greet anyone who steps through the gate. For a year, the work will be photographed daily with the aim of creating a timelapse that will form a digital gateway, so to speak.
