Terrace Tower - Amsterdam Zuidas

Suitsupply’s new headquarters sets a powerful example for future developments on the Zuidas. Bjarke Ingels Group’s high-quality and iconic architecture is further enhanced by intense greening of the roof terraces.

On the Zuidas, green is the new marble

Het Financieel Dagblad previously stated that to remain attractive, the Zuidas needs to be “friendlier, more diverse and greener”. Scientific research shows that access to outdoor green spaces significantly increases employee well-being and productivity.

Thus, in the longer term, greenery is changing from a cost item to an economic revenue model.

The terraces connect visitors on different floors to each other and their surroundings.

Compaction goes hand in hand with radical greening

A spectacular view.

With the Terrace Tower and soon The Pulse, DELVA is taking the lead in greening the roofs and public spaces of the Zuidas to create a network of ecological stepping stones between the Amsterdamse Bos and the Amstelscheg.

An inventive roof structure, consisting of a basic substrate layer and 3D printed pots for trees and shrubs, creates a uniform structure for all terraces and ensures good growing conditions for the greenery.

A green carpet will develop over time on the substrate between the pavement.
The 3D printed pots with open bottoms so trees can also take root in the substrate.

Grasses and perennials form a green carpet in which a careful selection of trees throughout the seasons creates a diverse picture. Smaller currant trees in the middle are followed by larger birches, ornamental cherries or pines at the edge. Rainwater falling on the roofs is reused in the irrigation of the greenery.

Tientallen bomen op de terrassen zorgen voor combinaties van open en beschutte hoekjes.
Dozens of trees on the terraces provide combinations of open and sheltered spots.
